Correct me if I am wrong but 96-98 cobras have the cobra emblem on the front grill. That is how you can tell the difference between a 94/95 versus a 96-98 cobra.

Is there any other ways by just looking at the exterior? I know the 96-98 cobra has the 4.6.

 

the tailights in the back.....if the bars are vertical its a 96-98...horizontal 94-95

 

motors are different but unless you pop the hood you can't see that

 

tail lights are going to be the most obvious.
altho someone could of done a taillight swap like i hope to do.

 

95 94 just say mustang on the rear bumber the others say cobra

The 94-95 Cobras also have the crabclaw spoiler with the LED 3rd brake light. The tail lights are obvious and the bumper only says "Mustang" The hood also doesn't have the faux scoops in the same spot.

 

NO Cobra came with a Cobra grill emblem.

The wheels are also different along with the stuff everyone else mentioned. Hood, tail lights, trunklid/wing, rear bumper, also 96-98 Cobras have larger tail pipes... 94 Cobras didn't have an SVT emblem, 96 Mustangs have a honeycomb grill also...
