Default uphoulstry?

how hard is it to reuphoulster your seats? come summer I'll have the money to buy the leather uphoulstry kit for my front seats, the rears are fine, I can do them later if I want, they just need to be cleaned more....

I just want to know how hard it is if I were to buy one of those kits, is is as simple as pull the hog rings out, peel off, fix/replace the seatfoam, put on the new material, re hog ring?

sort of and sort of not......I did my 85 gt interior last year and you have to take the seats completely apart and all hardware off them cut the hog rings loose and then the foam is held to the seats via the rings then install upholstry on seats and stretching the fabric and or leather in your case to fit.....it takes time..and patience.. but all in all it wasn't that difficult..just gotta remember where everything goes and do one seat at a time so you can reference to the otheres the work to be performed

seats arent hard.i made my own back seats if you dont recall or didnt see it. hog rings are easy, i found a good trick to them. i took some needle nose vice grips. get a solid grip near the opening and twist counter clockwise just enough to open it up and rotate the ring out. takes 5 seconds max for each. new foam is a sinch to put in, i didnt have to on my project but its no big deal, pretty straight forward. when you place the new leather on you want to steam fit it that way it retracts and gets a nice tight fit. when you put your hog rings back on start for from the middle and work around evenly to keep out wrinkles and pletes. use a steamer if you have trouble....simple stuff.

Or when you are done, you can set the seats out in the sun for an hour or so.

yea, you steam the least as you slip it over the new foam and as the moister evaporates it tightens on the foam and your wrinkle and pleete free.

if you didnt see them before here they are, my bottoms are complete smooth with no wrinkle even though i see one in the picture, i think its because i sat in them. lol...takes a minute to retract....as for the tops, its actually stapled to a hardboard on the back(weird!?) so it was really hard to get it all the way smooth, its only wrinkled in the very bottom left and right hand corners, but you can hardly tell in person:

sweet, thanks for the details.

the seats are the only real nasty part of the interior, aside from some new floor mats and maybe some carpet cleaner in one or two spots and a new ashtray door. the interior is pretty mint, it took me over an hour to clean all the white on the door panels, maybe I'll replace them one day, but for now they are fine...

cant wait till summer to do them now
