ok ive been trying to follow all of ur threads about this explorer motor swap. i would like to do this possibly this summer (if i can find a good one for a decient price)now what do you have to change? i kno about the cam and valve train. i just read about the oil filter, i kno you have to drill and tap the lower for the act? were there alot of vac lines that were un necessary? did you have to change to the explorer wiring harness or could you just use the mustang one? and i kno about swapping the TB from the mustang aswell as the timing cover/oil pan/waterpump. what about the ac and alt? i would assume thoes but im not sure. and you swapped the injectors correct? and im already MAF. (i kno you stayed SD) what else am i missing? also are the internals fordged like my 89 or are they the hyper? thanx (sry for the long post lol)

ok...

they have hyper pistons

and i swapped everything sept the block, heads and intake

a/c
p/s
smog
alt
brackets
water pump
timing chain cover
oil pan
oil pump and pick up tube
harmonic balancer
flexplate for flywheel
throttlebody
egr
used mustang harness
should swap oil pressure sending unit, i didnt because im going mechanical
motor mounts
explorer injectors, but mustang works fine, its all the same(just look differant)
actually didnt have enough vac **** on the back of the exploder intake, i t'd one off
theres an extra on the front, i capped it off
no provisions for smog on back of heads, personally didnt care, you might
new mustang timing chain(Because their double roller, exploder is that flat link ****)
cam is basically a must
distributer inplace of the cam position sensor

yano i think thats it, but i may have missed something... it sounds worse then it is

that actually doesnt seem too bad. so you kept smog? or no? because of the no provisions on the heads? and you kept the explorer pistons/crank etc correct?

and if you dont mind about how much do you say you have in the swap? and i would prob just go single springs unlike ur double

well smog pump is still on... w. the tube to the exhaust, its prolly not doin me too much good though,lol...but yea i left it on

as far as how much is in this motor...

550 for the explorer motor from the junkyard, complete motor
500ish in the cam/valve train(springs, locks, retainers)
100ish in gaskets

i prolly have around 2k or more in it in all actuality, but thats because of the other motor, and alot of random ****... so i guess its not fair to say 2k... 1000-1200 is about right though

and yea i used the explorer bottom end... its identical to the mustang bottom end w. hypers...

yea go single spring, just so you dont have to cut the seats

if i can make a suggestion, id suggest strengthening the valve train a bit, stud mount, RRs bigger pushrods... i havent yet, but its the very next thing on my list...

o and the water pump leak, theres a hole in the timing chain cover by the pass side port... no hole in the water pump, and the gasket covers it, but thats where its leaking.... so new gasket and some rtv will cure that, ill do it sometime today
