Your 5.0 experience
I've many times heard people describe their ownership of a 5.0. So often, they've said things like, "Thatmotor lived on the redline for 300k miles, and the engine still ran like new when I sold it." Or, "we kept taking turns trying to blow the motor so we could put the new one in, but the damn thing wouldn't die." Or, "275k miles...never even took off a valve cover". I've heard so many testaments to the durability of the stock 5.0 engine; and mine always surprises me with the cute little way that it runs BETTER after I've beenhard on it. Then I've also heard stories of broken rods, twisted oil pump shafts, and at the least, blown headgaskets. My question is, what have your experiences been with the longevity of the stock 5.0 motor; and while we're at it, how do you think they compare to the 4.6 motors in this regard. Also, if you have managed to break one of thesestout smallblocks, please tell us how you did it. Thanks.
hmm, I have to say that '77 has the best "destruction of a five liter ever....
mine still runs like a champ with over 120 thousand miles on the clock... who knows who has owned it before me, it was wrecked once, then rebuilt.... knocks on wood

My experience w/ my car had been phenomenal. It has had regular maintenance since I have owned it since 94 w/ 32K on it. Now w/ 160 on it, still runs as good as it ever has. Been probably one of the best cars I've ever owned.
got 187k on mine and it still runs like a champ. thursday night i drove home in our big snow storm for 4 hours with no problems and had it tached out plenty of times no problems. i also have a burnt valve and my valve springs are all shot. still race still beat on her no problems
