Default looking to buy this 88 5.0--good deal?

1988 Mustang GT, 85,000 original miles, 5 speed, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows & locks.
Immaculate body-no dents, scratches or rust, paint shines like new.
Interior is immaculate and looks like new as well.
Runs & drives perfect. All switches, lights, gauges work, a/c is ice cold (converted to R134).
Car is completely stock, with exception of new Ford Motorsport clutch and new 2-1/2" catback exhaust with very mild Flow Master mufflers (not loud, just a nice growl). Also installed new throw out bearing, new rear main seal and new tires.

Guy put on ebay and top bid was $6500 but high bidder didn't have the $.

What's a fair price? thx

My opinion a lil bit high. I would think 5000 or even 4800. Just my opinion.

pics would help. I wouldn't low ball on a low mile car, especially one that had a lazer straight body, that is where a lot of money accumulates. You are looking at like $1,000 in recent money thrown into the car with a new clutch, rear main, throw out bearing etc. The labor alone is $400 bucks or more depending where you are to R&R the tranny etc. new tires, if you like the wheels and all (and don't want to change them), figure that that is like another $500 he just put into it with rubber, mounting/bal etc. I know I just did or am in the process of doing this to my '93...Mine is a 70k car, and I wouldn't take less for it having made it perfect for a used car. You already know he had interst at the prior amount too. Thow a couple hundred less out there and see. there is a thing such as out negotiating yourself...

If the car is in as great condition as you said then I would shoot for about 6k. Nothing wrong with paying a premium to get a car in great condition that hasn't been modded to hell and back, IMO.

go look at it in person and work from there. -1for fugly red interior!!!

If you like what you see, get it looked at by a hsop or a friend/try and put it up on a lift and work from there if you are uncomfortable with the price, try and negotiate. If you can't come to an agreement, give the seller your name and number and tell him to call you if he hasn't found a buyer. In NY, winter is not mustang selling season! Think about what you want to do with it, and again take that recent work into account. I recently bought a fox, a 93 GT with 69,000 original miles, and was willing to pay KBB retail price from a dealer (although I bought it private)to factor in the collectability/status of these cars if that helps. Of course it isgoinf to be much lower with an '88.Good luck.

Again, you get what you pay for...
