i have an 85 gt on the the timing cover where the pointer bolts up it looks like a dip stick hole that has been blocked off and i have bought two pointers for it and neather worked the people i bought them from said the pointers would work on the 85 gt,right now the car has an 95 gt motor that i put in myself but i used what i thought was the 85 cover, the 95 did i did not get the timing cover for if anyone could please show me a pic of a true 85 gt timing cover i cant pull no numbers off my cover becouse they are gone any help please
sounds to me like you have a mid 60's or early 70's front sump timing cover where the dip stick through the timing cover and on the opposite side there should be a bump or a pointer cast into the cover where the timing indicator would be on a front sump 60's /70's mustang.........I know there are adjustable timing pointers that you can buy and adapt to that set up to take the reading where a fox body normally has it...ford racing I believe sells the kits...but if you want to uses the factory set up then what you need is a timing cover off a eary 80's mustang up to 85...cause all these will have the cast in part for using a mechanical fuel pump..I used to have the cover you needed on my 85 but I sold it and put one on for a 87-93 cause I now use an elec holley blue pump...but the one for the early 80's mustangs won't have the oil dipstick tube there.
