supporting the engine help?
ok i need some opinions here, ive called a bunch of different stores/speed shops and NO ONE has a tool to support the engine so i can drop the k member out, so i came up with an idea......... Can i take a 2 by 4 and put it across the engin bay, rap a chain around that connect it to the engine, and then take a jack at the rear of the oil pan for more support to drop the k member??????

RE: supporting the engine help?
Engine crane would be best but I have used a 4x4 on a escort motor one time when I had to do a trans when I was in a jamb. if you are gone togo the board route I would use a pipe or something stronger then a 2x4 or even a 4x4. dont take much to snap a 2x4.

I guess it's time to get inventive then. Something like a chain or something around a tree limb or something similiar. You could jack the car up as high as you could get it and attach the chain or straps to engine then slowly lower car to get slack out of the straps. Put you jackstands wherever you can get get them, maybe subframe connectors. It's backyard redneck tech but it would work if your not able to find a hoist.

I'd do the build a engine craddle thing out of 4x4's cause the engine hoist will get in the way..and doing a k-member you really need to be able to walk around the vehicle...CHECK out ...OTC....we bought ours from them..if you do the wood thing..use strong wood like oak and to make it adjustable drill holes in it in two places and take thread rod and bend the tip like a hook and then you can lift the motor up supported by the craddle you made via the thread rod being tightened..WE did this and it worked well..in fact that's sort of how the professional one we have is
