thats my dads 8.3 cummins that we've been rebuilding over the past couple weeks. should have it running by tomorrow - finally [8D]

 

aren't/weren't (not sure if it was past or present[>:]) F1 cars completely gear driven? i remember seeing a pic of the front of a motor which was labeled to be from an F1 car and it had a whole mess of gears

 

My guess is it prolly would be. Trying to turn chains at nearly 20,000rpm could be problematic, and the gears would prolly allow for more positive timing control at that insane of a speed.

just got the head on, rockers adjusted, and holset turbo bolted on. with any luck we'll have it running tonight

 

F1 cars are gear driven if I remember. They are crazy motors. I believe they are under 3 liters 8 cylinders 19k redline insane.

 

Yeah, current FIA regs have them at 2.5ish liters and 19,000rpm, making around 800hp.

What kinda cam does that thing have anyway? Did they use a roller? Or is it a falt? And solid or hydraulic? Or does it run an OHC setup?
