Default The end all of Top end threads (mine at least)

Okay, so ive determined that my engine is just old, and needs some TLC and a rebuild, im going in to get a job this weekend, working part time, and im going to save up for a top end kit

i know i need the usual, i just want some final input before i commit to it

My list is

AFR 165 Heads (i figure i might as well go good, no matter the expense, however, input is appreciated)

Eddie Performer RPM II Intake

I was Told a Steeda Cam, but i dont remember the number, any good cam suggestions?

Definately a new TB and EGR plate, what are the best brands to buy from?

new injectors (what size/brand)?

other than that, i dont really need anything, i already have a CAI, and a new ignition system, however, i might still upgrade that, and i cant really think of anything else, ill get a random, good looking valve cover, just need input on what i missed.

gracias peeps

Don't forget the MAF, fuel pump, and FRP.

It is a tad more expensive but you would be happier with a custom cam than an off the shelf, it would be tailored to your exact setup. Maybe give someone like Jay Allen a call when you are ready to get a cam or simply for some advice?

If you are thinking AFR 185cc heads, make sure you get some aftermarket pistons with larger valve reliefs. The valve radial will usually extend past the valve reliefs on stock or stock style valve reliefs.

I have had good success with Probe pistons.

As for custom camshafts, I have had great support and parts from Ed Curtis @ www.flowtechinduction.com.

Buddy Rawls is also someone I would consider.

The camshafts are $325 or cheaper...

If you would like to shift at 6500 rpm...

- AFR 185cc
- Systemax II
- Custom camshaft
- 10:1+ compression
- 30 lb injectors
- 70mm TB
- 80mm+ MAF

or if you are looking for 6,000 rpm or less

- AFR 165
- Ported Performer or Systemax
- Custom camshaft
- 10:1+ compression
- 24 or 30lb injectors
- 70mm TB
- 80mm+ MAF

Each followed with a decent 1.625" header...

Good Luck and have fun

185s are out of the question if i need new pistons. im not that rich, and im only going to be making about 300 bucks a paycheck (2 weeks, VERY part time, can only work weekends) seeing as thats the case, are the 165's worth it, or should i look at another head

as for a custom grind, ill call some peeps when im ready for it, right now, my plan is to buy it bit by bit as i get the cash, ill probably ask for the heads for my birfday ;D

as for the holly vs eddie, ill probably go with the cheaper

91 hatch, cant i just use the stock maf and pump? and whats FRP? ford racing products?

if no to the maf and the pump, how many LPR?

thanks guys, i really appreciate it

edit, Towards 5spd GT's second setup, i think thats what im looking for, just wanna know if anyone else thinks its good

( i dont really plan on taking it past 6 grand, hell, ive never gone past 5 on the car as it is.

A stock fuel pump is going to be either 88 or 95 lph. My '93 had a stock 95lph pump. A potential 300rwhp combination is going to be a lot of strain on that LPH rating.

I would get a 190+ LPH pump. They run right at $100.

Using the stock MAF is tailored too the stock 19 pound injectors. Both the MAF and injectors need to be swapped out, because the combination will require more fuel.

One more thing to consider is a new clutch. More power is going to need more clutch.

You can getKing Cobra for $180 and it will do fine. I prefer Centerforce though, but they are more $ ($300).

By the way, the Holley intake is $590, and the RPM II is $610. TUmato, TOEmato...

The camshaft should be the last thing chosen, so it can be "worked" around your combination.

I thought you were going to rebuild the bottomend, so that is why it was suggested. But many reuse stock pistons, crank, rods, etc. during a budget build.

Good Luck!

If you need a fuel pump why not go with the best?

http://www.jdsperformance.com/index....amp;inmake=136

89.00 dollars for the best pump on the market

okay, thank you, thats pretty much everything i need to know in one lil package

For the record, ATM i have a Spec stage II, but i plan on getting a new one soon, unfortunately, i think my linkage/pedal are going out, too, so ill need those too......

also, lifters pushrods and rockers? will the cam grinder suggest them, or am i going to have to pick and choose?

okay damnit, 1 last question

should i go with the 58cc, or the 60cc combustion chambers? and if i run 58 what compression will it make? will i need to run calis poor excuse of a premium? (91 octane FTL)
