a bad cap and rotor can def. hurt your milage so you might see an increase when you change them

+1 to that, before i did my first full tune up i had terrible gas milage, after i did it i saw a HUGE increase. Under the right circumstances i could see 300 to a tank easily. 320 if i want to empty it out and start coasting to a gas station lol.

The best I have ever got on a full tank, city only, is 156, I had 3 gallons left in the tank, complete tune up, fuel filter, you name it. Drove it very conservative as well, unexplainable, like I said, I have no idea if something has been done to my motor or not, its quick, but its the only stang I have ever driven.

If you are interested in max mileage and minimum cost to fill up. Gentle starts, short shift it, but don't lug the motor, clean air cleaner, good wires, cap and rotor.Keep your tires at max inflation as marked on the sidewall. Make sure your brakes aren'tdragging. If you are a left foot braker (on automatic trans cars) keep your foot OFF the brake pedal. I had a bud who had a 90 BMW that got crapply mileage. He was always complaining about it. I followed him one time & noticed his brake lights were always on. Left foot braker! He started usinghis right foot to brake, like you are supposed to. Picked up 5 or 6 mpg! Check your timing and set it at the factory recommened 10 BTDC. At 10, it should run OK on 87 octane gas. Factory specs were intended to run it on 87.

My car has Cobra upper and lower intake, CAI, E303 cam, Crane rollers, MSD box, Afjustable FPR, BBK equal length shortys, 3.55 R&P, 17X8 TSWs with 245/40s all around.I regularly get 18 to 20 city and 26 to 28 highway. That's with really old lady type driving.

Good luck with it.

That's repugnant and silly.

My '86 DD, 5 spd. with 2.73 gears gets 22 mpg and I drive it like I stole it everywhere I go. A good tune is the most important thing for good mileage. If you aren't getting at least 20 mpg no matter how you're driving it... something's wrong.
