RE: what would you pay...
just my opnnion but... from the pics you took the body looks straight, just needs cleaned up.
of course with the top being open like that you will find rust in the floor pans, but they can be replaced.
if you can get it for a price you can live with go for it. all projects run into money.
(we do it for our love of these cars),
not because we have money to throw around . do you have a place to store it while yopu work on it? again just my opinion.could you get some pics of the inside?

RE: what would you pay...
idk man she might want to hold on to it cause it was one of her kids that died or something and it is sentamental to her , but far as getting it i would buy it if it can be got for no more than 1k . it looks pretty straight the top is little over 400 to order and replace and all the other stuff you can take your time on as you said you have a garage to store it . and on a plus side if you loose interest in it you could always part it or sell it whole for more than what you paid for it . be persistant tell here your intensions for the car is to restore it og and she might go for it you know her kid wouldn't want it to sit and rott.

RE: what would you pay...
Honestly I wouldn't bother. For the amount of money you will dump into it, you can just buy a decent mustang. I was gonna do the same thing, there was a 90 black GT 5 speed with sunroof, lowered with decent rims. But the tranny was shot, the motor seized from sitting so long, the interior was moulded out like a rianforest, there was bondo by the sunroof.... andthe hood had freaking horses airbrushed on. The hood looked nice if it were a picture or on the inside of the hood but way too flashy for me on the outside. I had a mechanic I know come look at it and he said it's only worth it if I plan on parting it out. I really liked what the car could be and almost paid the 1200 they wanted for it. But I'm glad I didn't. I would have had to dump way too much money into it.

1st: Jack it up on wheel stands or jack stands and get a GOOD look at the
bottom of the car. If it's got a lot of rust, probably best to walk away.
The rust can still be fixed but the car will be a BIG project.
If no rust. $500-800. A half decent body is worth $500-1000.
Friend of mine just sold his rolling chasis (no engine or trans.) for $2,000
If the lady balks at your offer, say look the thing doesnt even run.
I dont know if it needs a new engine or what and its 20 years old

The interior can be replaced, but I am betting on the absence of floor on this one.
