Multifuntion harness melted

Multifuntion harness melted
My headlights were giving the typical fox flickering issue. So i take apart the light switch, seems ok.
I take apart the multifuntion switch and disconnect the three plastic harness's from it and notice the one that controls the highbeam funtion is a little melted. has anyone had this happen to them? I'm sure the multifuntions switch is ok, its just the plastic harness. I called around and they don't make them, I guess i got to go to the junk yard.
but what i did notice is the connecter was kinda wet-feels like armour all. I'm thinking armour all seeped into the column and shorted it out.

RE: Multifuntion harness melted
yeah, that happened in my 87 last year. It caused my headlights to just stop working. I think it had something to do with the foglights. Supposedly they are prone to heating up the circuit or something.

RE: Multifuntion harness melted
Bad design by Ford, just replacing the plug will not fix the problem. It will eventually burn up the headlight switch and/or multi-function switch. Here is a link to what I have done to all my Gt stangs after I got them. Hope this helps.

RE: Multifuntion harness melted
do you think if i replace multifuntion switch and just unplug the fog lights from the headlight switch, it will be ok.
since the fog lights dont really do anything anyway

RE: Multifuntion harness melted
I replaced my multifunction switch first, but then the wires kept heating up, and kind of messed up my current one before i cut the old connector off and spliced in a new one. I plan on running the foglights per that article. Its a lot better supposedly. i would just do that. It looks pretty cool with just parking lights and foglights on.
just replace that connector, it will save you a headache down the road...

RE: Multifuntion harness melted
cant i just cut off the plastic connecter and buy new conecters from part store and heat wrap them and connect each connecter separately. Since they don't make a new oem connecter.
