Default Question

I have all the bolt ons for my car with the exception of the 347 stroker kit. I keep going back and forth between saving up enought to either buy the block and kit from Fordstrokers or just getting the kit and having a machine shop do my stock block. Only main thing im missing is heads. And I cant decide on AFR 185's or TFR High Flows. I dont plan on going over 500hp on this car so my question is. Should I just save my money for other stuff and have the stock block done or save up for a new block? Oh and I have yet to buy injectors, pump, and electrical stuff like msd or what ever. What you guys think??

you'll have to price how much a machine shop will charge to build an engine, then go from there. Different places charge different amounts to do engine work so shop around.

PS~~~~> AFR 185's

the stock blocks are prone to splitting under high hp , the fordstroker blocks are a thicker heavier cast than the stock one.you can put in valley girdels but idk on how well that works .

It seems to me that buying the shortblock would be cheaper. I would think that a machine shop would charge more to rebuild your stock block. Plus, you will have to have your stock block notched for the stroker, bored out, possibly decked to ensure a flat mouting surface. The ford stroker short block already has this done and comes assembled. Also, your car wouldnt be down as long, b/c you can transfer all of your parts to your new shortblock, instead of waiting weeks to have your stock block machined and then reassembled. If you have any mechanical knowledge, you could do the labor yourself. Just make sure you GET ALL OF YOUR TORQUE SEQUENCES RIGHT. tTust me, you dont want to spit a headgasket after youve done all that hard work.
