Default Speed shifting ?

Can anyone tell me what speed shifting is?I have a srtock T5 and some people tell me you can shift it with out the clutch? I do not want to try this because it makes no sense. Why would all stick shift cars have a clutch if it is not needed ? I am going to the track this summer and I want to make some good passes.

it's called power shifting its the art of not lifting on the gas when you stomp the clutch pedal while yanking gears if you do it right to the untrained ear it would sound like a automatic
be careful doing this if you are a beginner watch it t5's arent cheap
power shift with caution my friend

there was a thread on this not too long ago, i remember. power shifting, to my knowledge, is no use of the clutch at all. foot on the gas to the floor at all times, never releasing for shifting, never depressing the clutch, you just get that right RPM

i have never done it in my car, but my dad has in mine. scared the sh*t out of me, but hey, he breaks it, he buys it

2 different things
power shifting is mashing the gas, when you get to the top of the gear, you slam the clutched down and shift as FAST as you can and release the clutch again. if done fast enough the engine shouldnt dive far into redline

speed/rpm shifting is not as agressive. you drive in 1st gear like normal (using the clutch from zeroMPH). then as you aproach 2.5-3k rpm, you let go of the gas and pull into second slightly, as the rpms drop the shifter should fall into gear, repeat for the next gear ect

as far as not using the clutch at the top of the gear you could do that if you were running a pro motion 5 speed call them clutch less transmission
only use the clutch to start and stop the rest is shear gear bangin fun
look into a guy brian meyer he runs the nmra hot street i believe or bruce hemminger they both run a pro motion trans.

VERY wrong. You never, never never never want to shift a car without a clutch. Power shifting-Keeping you foot to the floor on the gas, pushing in the clutch quickly and shifting and releasing the clutch all before your car hits redline. takes some practice, if you miss the shift you can grind gears or hit the rev limiter. can sound like an auto at the track when done correctly. some people choose to do this, others think it is too risky, although some have said it can take .1-.2 off your ET.Speed shifting-shifting "normal" lifting off gas, using the clutch to shift, and getting back on the gas as fast as you can. this is what most people do at the track.Rev matching-shifting without (cringe) a clutch. you can go from gear to gear at certain rpms with out a clutch but even done right is harmful to your tranny and syncros and should never be done not even for fun. some people do it bec they think that are cool that they can shift without a clutch but then they will be the one asking you to help them with a tranny swap soon down the road. once again...don't do this!

when running down the track, I try to tell myself to not let off the gas...yet my feet haven't been able to do that part yet LOL...maybe this year I'll get it right!
