another Gas MPG
i have a 93 with all the bolt ons. the question is that my mpg seems lower than others. i know the previous owner instaleld a bigger fuel pump but would that cause the mpg to suffer. at a half tank i read like 80 miles. also my gas guage is weird it will be almost on E and ill fill it up and it will only take 13.5-14 gallons meaning theres another gallon in the tank? any advice would be great
Fuel pump will not change gas mileage unless your regulator is not working correctly. Is the car running rich? If it hasn't been done lately i would do a full tune up. Plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, fuel filter. Take apart TPS and clean it good as well as your other sensors, check timing and with new plugs make sure they are gapped correctly, dont assume they are right just because they are new from parts store.
Run the actual numbers, 1/2 a tank by 80 miles is inconclusive.
Granted your odometer is accurate, this should work;
1) Fill up until the gas pump quits automatically, the first time.
2) Reset the trip.
3) Drive until you want gas again.
4)If you want to be as accurate as possilbe go back to the same pump, or at least the same gas station. Fill up until it stops automatically ( consistent stopping point). <---This part is very important.
5) Divide miles driven by gallons pumped.
Now you have your actual MPG. How you drive -hard or easy. Where you drive- city or highway. Condtion of the car, etc. will have thier impact. You said it is tuned-up. How is the tire pressure? How you you drive it? Driving it easy will make a big differnce.
I get about 300-325 Miles to a tank- about 13-13.2 gallons to fill-up. Thats around 25 MPG. I drive pretty easy 97% of the in a mixture of hwy/open roads/ stop&go. It is also maintianed religiously- Clean filters, good igniton parts, clean motoroil, synthetic tranny and gear oil, good oxygen senors, clean MAF senor, slighty over-inflated tires, etc. Also you should have a few gallon left in the tank even if the gauge says "E", I think thats intentional, plus the gas gauges are not super accurate anyways.
There is usually room for improvement, good luck.

we just had a couple of threads like this .. so i did a test lol before i tried this i was getting about 14 mpg . now i like to drive my car thats shifting between 3 and 4 grand .. so i filled up that tank shifted at around 2 k everytime and made it about 225 miles which came out to 17.92 mpg .. i was like freakin amazed .. its like 94 blk said its all about how you drive the car ..
also dude you should never let the gauge get that close to e .. and you will still have fuel even after the gauge reads below the red line so yeah you probably had a gallon or 2 left

IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU DRIVE and where you fill up at.
if you drive like granny you will obv get better gas mileage.
right now im at 75miles at half tank.. but ive been drivin like a dick latley. usually its around 90-95ish
all highway at 65-70mph = 22mpg
around town not drivin like a dick and shifting at about 2300 about 17mpg
regular divin i avg about 16mpg some highway and a little beatin here and there
