Default Speedo

I have recently developed a problem with my speedometer. When i am just driving normal it sits on the peg, but if i get on it, it will jump up to the speed i am going but as soon as i let off it drops back down to the peg. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Thanks

My speedo problems were caused by my vehicle speed sensor. I suggest pulling yours out to check it. All the teeth were pretty much shot on mine. It turns out the sensor was good, just the gear was bad. I was getting all kinds of crazy readings. Like going about 50 and having the speedo jump from 30 and shudder it's way past 60. Random **** like that.

I got one at advance auto for around 25 bucks.

But I don't understand how it could be the cable....it is a mechanical connection to the tranny, either it works or it dosn't. I think it more of a speedometer problem.
