Default cobra question

i have a 96 cobra 5.0 engine THE LAST COBRA 5.0! i want to put this engine in my 86 f-150. the 302 that is in the truk is fuel injected but a different firing order i am told i can correct the firing order by changing the cam so that my fuel injection will work correctly. has to stay fuel injected! will this cobra motor loose anything by changing the firing order? power? speed? ability to gain rpm,s quikly? were can i find roller cam with the same speks as the cobra but in the firing order of a truk 302?

i highly doubt this..because 95 was the last year for the 5.0...in 96 they went to the modular motor...over headcamshaft..n for the cobras pretty sure it was a dohc modular

maybe it wasa left overthat didnt sell in 95...idk..but 95 was the last year for pushrod 5.0s..as for the question...ive never dealt with anything that old before..im sure someone can answer ur question tho

i would think you have to change the cranke, if you are going to change the motor over why not change the computer?

So you want to take this Cobra 5.0 (which I doubt is from '96) and change it to the non HO firing order? Non HO engines in the F-150s only put out about 185 crank HP as opposed to ~220 for the Mustang HO motors (more for Cobras). If you have the whole engine why don't you just drop that in because if you want to change the firing order of the truck to the HO firing order (not sure why you'd want to do it the otherway around likeyou said), you will have to change the cam (and maybe the crank?), the order of the plug wires on the distributor, and the computer so that the injectors fire in the right order.

I'm a little rusty on my F-150 knowledge but weren't they still Carbed in '86? Or were you talking about the fuel injection on the donor 5.0? Going back and reading your post again is leaving me a little confused [&:].

1986 was the first year for feul injection on the f-150 also the last year for sealed beam headlights. no one beleaves me but by the vin number on the donar car that i personally took this cobra 5.0 out of IT IS A 96! but thats not important. i dont want to change crank or cam because i want it to remain an HO im really good with engines and mechanics but know nuthing about computer and wiring. wat do u guys think would b involved in coverting the truks wireing to the correct injector order? do yall think the truks current fuel pump will work for this HO?

one person said to change the computer in the truk but is it really that simple? could i just plug in the computer from a 5.0 and solve the problum? i do kno the wiring on this truk is simaller to that of my 87 5.0 GT?

i really want to put this cobra 5.0 in my truk. call it hot rod street rod or watever i think its gonna bbad ***! also intend to use the 5 speed from the mustang. as for the 351 if i could find a cleaveland that would b great but the winsor suks! and the M400 is a torque bound work motor. the only thing keeping this motor from working is the injector order it cant b that hard to solve?

I wouldn't do it, the truck engine is built with a bit more low end torque, which the truck needs.

We also had an 86 that we tried putting in a 5.8, but the project got cancelled because of the firing order. A 302 was put back in.

The 86 project (no longer around as far as we know , but there is a chance it is alive in Mexico)
