Default Keeping it Speed Density...Why?

If SD could notsupport mods likea H/C/I swap, then I thinkSDto Mass Air Conversionswould be as common as replacing Stock exhaust.

sd is better than mass air really.....it is way way way overrated.

back in the day guys were running 12's on very stockish SD cars , until there are drivability problems...leave it alone is what i say

Actually Mass Air is better.

Mass Air is more accurate, except on boosted engines where it can get overwhelmed and will "spike" out.
Thats why you see big power boosted engines running SD.

SD works just fine, only reason for the mod is if you need to tune.

There just is no aftermarket mods or support for the Mustang SD system. It's not that Mass Air is
all that much better, it is a little in the right app., there are just more tuning options available.

You dont HAVE to have a tune to do head/cam swap but you might have some idle issues
and power might not be quite as high as it "could" be.

Most of the powerful aftermarket EFI ECM's are SD, FAST and Megasquirt for example. SD can easily be as accurate as MAF, but only if the lookup tables are based on an accurate volumetric efficiency.

a basic h/c/i is very doable on sd and will not have idle issues , and agreed there is a bigger market for the mass air and cam selection is much easier for maf than sd , but if you know what you are working with in stock sd you can gain decent power and good driveablity .
it is like any other set up you run you have to know what you have what your limitations are and what does your budget intail you to do . me i couldn't see spending money on a conversion to maf when i could use that miney to build some more hp with the sd system.
stock sd has limitations but go with after market ecu(ms or xfi) and you have a foundation to go more .

The thing with SD is vacuuum. If you mess with it too much the car won't know what to do. Get a cam with a higher lift and lower duration. Duration is what affects vaccum. I had h/c/i on an 88 I used to have. Cobra intake, afr 165's and an ultradine cam w/525 lift and I can't remember the duration but it wasn't much. The car surged a lot but it was a low 12 sec. car. 150 shot of nitrous was good too.

As I learned the hard way...significant mods will 'work' with SD but often (as in my case) you take nice drivability and throw it right out the window. I know alot of drivers don't mind surging, stalling, hanging idles but I couldn't imagine going back to driving my car like that after the MAF conversion and having the car professionally tuned. So nice to have stock behavior and 120 more HP at the wheels than factory. SD will work with most every modification..but as i stated, the car might become somewhat of a headache to drive.
