Default Getting another Mustang

OK so I'm back in the market for a Mustang. I last had a 98 GT, that I did the PI swap on. I was pretty happy with the performace, but I'm not looking to get another 4.6 unless it's a new one, which I can't afford. I attend college and do not rack in a lot of money. I'm looking about 5.0's because of how cheap you can find some of them. What issues do you have in the foxes versus sn95's? I want thecar to be reliable. Are foxes reliable? What are the perks? Do foxes have dual air bags in any models? What about mass air, what year did that start? Did any of them have 5 lugs? What will it take to see mid 12's?

Just shoot some general info about foxes, sn95's, or 5.0's in general.

Thanks a lot, Kevin.

there are a bunch of threads made already bout this, but I am too lazy to find them

but here is some info, as much as I can remember...
79-85 were carbed
86-88 were Speed density
86 motors were pigs, crappy heads crappy other parts as well, drop in power
89 was the start of mass air
87-92 had forged pistons
93 had hyperputic (sp???)
90-93 had drivers airbag
no fox had a pass. airbag, dash design prevented it
all foxes were 4 lug, aside from 84-86 svos, they were 5 lug, and the 93 cobra R, but those are hella rare and tons of $$$$
the biggest perk is the parts are super cheap for them, respond well to mods, lighweight
downside, nice ones are expensive, interiors are cheap, brakes are far from good, 75 amp alt.
to see mid 12s? HCI, good tires, suspension.
the 5.0 is a strong motor and will last if taken care of.

that is all I remember... If I am incorrect, someone will fix it

And you call yourself lazy ...

Lazy would be to not respond to the question (like I'm doing )

So it's safe to say that if I'm looking for the minimum work, I should be looking at 89-92. And right away I should probably look into upgrading brakes and the alternator.

As far as daily driving is concerned, how are these? Rattle?

That's the unfortunate thing, I won't have a second car to fall back on. They do seem like money pits, but I know the motors are solid.

my interior has rattles and squeaks, the steering wheel squeaks, freaks my friends out, I have a few air leaks etc, but nothing too terrible for a 17 year old convertible with 126,000 miles. the one speaker has a minor tap tap tap noise that is only noticable when the stereo is really cranked up.

oh yeah, the cars with airbags, no tilt wheel...
ash tray door usually will be broken, if you find one that isnt, your golden... I dont even have a door for it ha
the latch for the center console is cheap plastic and will crack... like mine did...

some cars the speedo bounces.... usually just have to lubricate the cable
factory gauges arent the most accurate

my fox is my only car.

HACKGT350 daily drives his '84 and its almost at 200,000 miles....

like I said before, take care of them, dont drive them ***** out every time you hop behind the wheel, and they'll be good to you

You would probably like a 94-95 better, have 5 lugs and disc brakes in the rear. The body is stiffer and quieter. Interior is nicer and can be found cheap. Pretty sure they have passanger air bags as well.

My fox rode pretty hard. It had its squeaks and rattles too. I say if you want ride and comfort then go for the 94-95.

you'd be right with that comment

I like my fox better than the sn95s, though the only sn95s I really like the looks of are the Cobras, just love their stance n stuff. not saying that either are bad cars, each one has their advantages and disadvantages....
