Default Replace thermostat

Please chime in if you have done this before

yes i know it has to be one of the easiest things to do but i'm getting conflicting answers

so i bought a new thermostat cause the dynosheet says im getting too hot up top and losing power.
i bought a new houseing cause it was cheap and a felpro gasket. the question is this: do i need to use that little silicone package that they sold me at the auto store? it says i have to let it cure for 24 hrs!! i need this car EVERY day for work and school so if i dont NEED the silicone i will just use the gasket. who has done this with just the gasket AND is leak free?

what i did was use a TINY little bit of silicone to make the t stat stick to the housing. just enough to make it stick though
you dont want any of the silicone to get in the way of the opening on the t stat
than you just line the gasket and housing up and bolt it back in.
tkaes about 30 mins if you try hard enough

use a little silicone on both sides of gasket to help seal better and you don't need to wait 24 hours ..it'll cure in less to be sufficient to driveI just start them up and let engine heat do the rest...RTV stands for room temperature volitile......

hope u got the waterpump off, otherwise gunna be a bit time consuming.

the lower bolt is a PITA to get off, especially since it backs out against the waterpump.

Can you explain this more? Is your car overheating?

i wouldnt say comepletly overheating but it is running very hot. i have not upgraded anything in my cooling system after all my mods so this was my first recommendation.

i also have an aluminum radiator and electric fan but dont want to install that until i have a better alternator.

My buddy just did his....installed it, started it....it leaked

I told him to put some sealer and let it sit overnight....he did it, started it up in the morning for work.....Perfect!

Good Luck!
