I can see were he's comin from though. While it's uneconomical and doesn't benefit the performance of the car, theres such a cool factor behind chirpin into a gear.

You can play with air pressure too to make them sound off. Mine will chirp down around 28psi, but they hook better @ 35psi.
An easy way to see if the clutch is slipping is to drive along about 45mpg in 5th gear and floorboard it. If it doesn't start slipping, it's probably ok.
My stocker went 130,000 hard miles before it started to slip.

I need a new clutch before I want to mess around with much wheel spinning anymore. I've heated the thing up so bad a couple times you could smell clutch for a half-hour afterward.
That said, I can lose traction from a standing stop and have never been able to spin the wheels going into second. Then again, I just recovered a bunch of missing HP over the weekend and haven't really tried chirping second yet. I do wanna move from my 3L08 rear end to a 3L77, though.
Someday.

I don't even try to drive over 3,000rpm in the rain, I have no traction until 3rd at like 80-90mph, and if I shift hard into 3rd it'll prolly come loose. The tires I have do great in the rain as long as I don't drive like a tard. Once your tires wear down more they'll chirp easier too.

Shift form first to second normal, push in the cluch, mat the gas and drop the cluch at the same time or do that as you are shifting....it should break loose some. Hell, I could get second in my old 2.3l ranger that couldn't go 70 on the highway if it was windy

On the way home from work I tried the 5th gear punch at 45mph, the car acted like it was missing, real jerky. Is that the sign of the clutch sliping?

The rpms would climb if it was slipping.
