Default Engine buildup

Well, im shopping around for an explorer motor.

What would be the ideal year to look for?? i want the gt40 heads....

I was told by a mustang guy, that i would want a 1996 motor, but he didn't tell me why?

I want to port the heads, and get the edelbrock RMP gap intake or w/e

But i still don't know what cam would be best?

What would you suggest for a cam.... LINKS TO THE SPECIFIC CAM IF POSSIBLE! ive been searching for a few hours now. and im undecided.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

if you want the motor equipped with gt-40's and not the "p" heads then you need one from below the 97.5 year model split

The P's are generally better, yet you more than likely have to use special headers with them for spark plug boot clearance.

well neither IMO are superb but since budget often dictates choice..the p's are a little but port a set of gt-40's and you have a decent factory head capable of 275-300 rwhp with right combo of parts

You can buy them off Ebay of other places already ported. Check out Thumper

As for cams you best bet would be an E-303, maybe F-303, Copm Cams XE270 those are very nice cams. As for me i have GT-40P, Edelbrock intake and E-Cam and i love it.

Yeah, i decided to stay with carb setup.

so what intake is better.... the explorer one, or the edelbrock preformer rpm gap or w/e?

How does the e303 do for power? i love the sound of it
