the stock pistons have circular depressions cast into them. They are there for clearance between the valves and the piston. If you use a cylinder head with valves that are larger than 1.84-1.9"/1.54=1.6", you would not have enough room for the valve to open up into the piston at the end of the exhaust stroke/begining of the intake stroke.

It's really hard to find a job anywhere lately now that the economy is starting to tighten up.
In case you're wondering what notched pistons look like, these are aftermarket, Mahle to be precise.
Don't mind the finger, it was for pointing out ring end gap.

yeah that pic helps it make more since i havent rebuilt a v8 yet just fourwheelers all the time. but i am putting a new bottom end and cam under my car this summer so just trying to figure some stuff out, thanks
