Default 8.8 to 9 conversion

What is involved in converting the 8.8 rear to the 9 inch ford? I am hoping to put a bbf into my stang soon enough, with some more funds, and am wondering how to change out rear ends?

^^+1 A built 8.8" will do just fine behind your engine and it takes less power to turn the rearend.

to properly build an 8.8 you will have a bunch of $$ in it, i built my 8.8 with new moser 31 spline axle, eaton pro posi, c clip eliminators, gears, welded the axle tubes and added braces, had to have 4x4 shop shim my gears, im not good with that stuff so anyway breakdown is like $225 for axles prolly $400 or so for posi, $200something for elims, $150 for gears, dont forget rear end kit bearing shims etc, $90, ifyou have someone put it together for you prolly another $300 so youre looking at $1400 or so, might be worth spending the extra $$ for the 9" esp since changing gears on them soooooo much easier than 8.8

I guess I got off lucky, I had a ex Ford Mechanic rebuild my entire rear end and he only charged me $100 labor, I supplied all the parts and brought him the rear end to his house, he barely had to get out of the recliner. I also took the cover off when I got it home and looked things over and made sure the gears wear meshing correctly and they was. Stay with the 8.8", you won't be disappointed. Have it built up a little bit and beat on it.

9" Fords don't come cheap either,my 83 has the Moser bolt in rear.
Swaps out easily enough, However.
Housing w/ axles and bearings $695.
Strange N case w/ 35 spline spool, 4.56gear,and Daytona pinion bearing retainer $1200.(Bulletproof YES, overkill MAYBE)
Rear brakes $395.
Freight to my house $200.
BTW they're (9") only easier to change gears inif you have 2 complete center sections (see $1200 above)
Durability (virtually indestructible). The 9" does have infinitely more ratios available than an 8.8, but most of the non-popular ratios are very$$$$.
You pays your money and you make your choice.
SPEED COSTS MONEY, HOW FAST YOU WANNA GO!
