331 on a 512 mile trip...
Well I decided to test out the mileage on the new 331. So far I have about 7k miles on the new engine, and this was its first road trip. The car ran flawless the entire drive to my house in Arizona (from CA, 256mi one way) air conditioning blasting the whole way, never got hot and was about 110* in the desert. After driving the 256 miles, I drove around a bit while I was there and put a total of 290 miles on the tank of gas before I filled up to drive home. I pumped 13.482 gallons to fill up which to my suprise comes to 21.510MPG! How sweet it is to have 3.08 gears on a long trip. I also figured out my around town mileage which comes to about 15.6MPG. Not too shabby for a mildly built 331.
Jay Allen is amazing, and the stock gearing doesnt hurt either.

Thanks, yes I did have the car dyno tuned and a custom SCT chip burned for it.
Results were : 383.4RWHP @ 4,848RPM & 419.9RWTQ @ 3,936RPM
I told Jay that the car was a daily driver, and that I wanted him to keep mileage in mind when grinding my cam, it is a 500+ lift cam and still got that kind of mileage. I hope for the car to run in the 12's somewhere when it comes time to take her down the track. Pretty cool to be able to go that fast, and still get 20+ MPG while cruising with the air conditioning on. This car has become exactly what I had in mind when I was building the engine, I am extremely happy with the results thus far. Hopefully the 1320 won't dissappoint me.
