the 5speed has advantage due to the tall first gear 3.25?(if i remember correctly) and aod has a 2.40. but if the 5speeddriver cant drive...

Stock for stock the 5 speed, but add the right torque converter to the mix and the auto will usually clean the 5 speeds clock.

Default RE: Which is faster?

it depends...
same rwhp, it might be real close
for instance the tko600 has a great 1st gear for modified cars, 2.8x 1st
the aode has a 2.4 1st and the 4r70w has a 2.8x 1st.
a stock converter or low stall kills the off the line performance.
if you got a modified valve body/ shift kit and the CORRECT converter, with close to the same gearing and same rwhp and power curves and same rear end gears, same car weight, then the auto has the upper hand.

in most apps, a 11 sec car or slower, will be faster with a 5 speed.

It depends how fast you can shift. Some people can run the same motor faster with an auto, some a stick.

you'll need more than a torque convertor to make the auto win...the aod's gearing has a lot to do with it plus the slippage and loss of hp through the auto the aod has a 2.40 first gear vs 3.35 of a t-5
