The ONLY reason I mark any rods on engines I build is because all rod journals vary in size and I tailor bearing clearances to each journal, so if I marked a rod #1, it was because of bearing clearances, other than that it does not matter.

you da' man!!! makes me feel good!! 250 mile round trip and car ran great....on the ride home one mean sounding dodge charger with a 440 on the highway thought he'd try and run me so I hit 3rd and I let him have the jump and immediately I rocketed past him and 4th left him in the dust!! yea!!!!!
