What kind of Differential?
Traction-Loc is standard in a 5.0 car. 28 spline axles.
Open- just uses spider gears and the tire with the least traction will spin.
Limited slip- usually uses a clutch pack to connect both axles together but allows slippage when turning. Traction-loc is a linited slip.
Locking differential- mechanically locks both axles together with gears usually but will release when turning, just not real smoothly like the LS type do.
Spool - is a solid piece that locks both axles together permanently.
Auburn is a brand name just like traction-loc is the Ford name for limited slip. Mopar called it Sure-grip.
The Auburn are ususally stronger than the oem type units.

well i have a Ford Racing "Auburn Pro" diff and a set of 31 spline axles on order to go along with the 3.73's. Should beef up the tired old rear end a bit huh! I'm going to stay with at 4 lug though. Just don't have the cash right now to by new 5 lug wheels and tires if i were to do the conversion. The tranny is finished and the motor is coming along nicely!
THat's strange that Ford Racing is pasted next to the part on Summit and LMR's websites. Thank you for the clarification though. I appreciate it. Do you think that a 3.73 gear is a good choice for the setup i've got or would a 3.55 be better? This is a DD car. The list of parts is on my "what is she capable of" thread. thank again mjr46.
3.73 or even 4.10, dont fear the gear! lol
i just bought 31 splines, i would have just put carbon fiber clutches (ford racing upgrade/rebuild kit) in my stock diff, but i needed a 31 spline diff, so i bought a 03/04 termy diff since it fits ours
they abuse the crap out of those with no problems
