Default Oil burning?

I heard it was normal for the 5.0's to burn a quart between changes is this true. Almost every stock 5.0 mustang I have seen burns oil but with no real noticable smoke. Mine has been through 3 quarts since my last change and I am getting no blue smoke.

3 quarts is not normal... .5-1 quart is much more acceptable.

Thats how I believe the previous owner of my car that its a rebuilt bottom end, because Im less than a quart down at oil change time. Doing another in the morning!
