after shutting motor off it is normal to hear oil draining back to bottom of pan..as far as oil pressure goes ..first thing I'd do is perform a mech test and see if gauge is telling the truth... if no ticking may be a result of a collapsed lifter..dirt in a lifter, loose rocker adjustment, exhaust leak, bent push rod..ect ect......and if the motor is running bad..timing may not be the prob as it often isn't... if it's running rough.. you need to locate which cylinder is misfiring by pulling wires on cap one by one as it's running and listen for when one pulled no load change occurs .. that'll be the misfiring cylinder if that is even the cause of your rough run.. from there you'd have to narrow it down to a bad secondary ignition component and or lack of compression ... via check

Are you removing the SPOUT plug before checking the timing? 10* is factory, 13* is good for a few HP but may require 91 octane fuel.

If the car was running good b4 the timing change that is your problem most likely, as asked about did you remove the timing spout, did you mark the balancer on 0 or the timing * marking you require? messing with timing isnt suggested for first timers! it is simple but easy to frog up!!yes factory timing is 8 or 10* you can go up to about 15-16* depending on elevation and fuel used!

When you remove the timing spout you are taking the computer out of the picture, the timing cant advance, you set the timing on 10-15 whatever your choice and replace the timing spout the computer then can adjust the timing as needed, the pinging is probably the quality of fuel you are using! it is easiest to mark the balancer on 0* where you can set it to any number, if you mark teh 10,11,12,13* marking everytime you want to change it you have to make another mark, waste of time!
