Default Cast pistons?

im getting a short block, but the block is coming with cast pistons? there are hyper, forged, and i know nothing about cast pistons... are they good material? will they handle boost? or just cough up the extra 400 for forged pistons... thanks peeps

Hyper are cast as well, just with a higher silica content. Cast are fine for a stockish engine, but if you really want good performance and not have to worry about crap coming apart, cough up the dough for a set of lightweight forged pistons. I like Mahle's, but you'll spend around $700 on a set of pistons and rings.

if you don't plan heavy amounts of spray then you'll be fine

If you are gone to put boost on it you should come up with the 400 to put forged in it. I would not run boost on anyone's cast pistons.
