Default REV LIMITER PROBLEMS

Need a little advice on what to do about this rev limiter problem. When it's cool outside or so my car runs fine and even last night I went up to 7000 RPM without hiting the rev limiter on my car. I have a 347 stroker motor with alot of work done to it but when it gets around 185 or so it's starts to fall short on the RPM like around 5000 or so and the rev limiter kicks in. I am absolutely sure it's the rev limter and have repalce the distributor to ensure it wasnt' the pick up. It doesn't do it all the time just when I have been driving it for awhile around town. I was thinking if I could just take the factor rev limiter off of my computer it would solve my problems then I could just use the rev limiter that's on my crane cams hi-6 box which is a 2 step. This seems practical right? I really want to go to the track this weekend and I don't want this to be a problem.......has anyone ever had this happen the car is not getting hot though at all but the rev limiter kick on sometimes when I really get on it. I also replace the old fuel pump with a 255lp from Anderson and got one of those 3 1/2in power pipes from them for my fenderwell to go with my 76mm mass air... any help is appreciated thank you for your time....
