Default info on stock heads?

i have 86 5.0, buddy has an 88 or 89 crown vic 5.0 ho motor , wandering if the heads would be different and if so, would their be a plus or neg in power increase. my motor smokes at start up and when you hit the gas so i was thinking of pulling the heads off and having them checked out, on the vic motor:confused. stock motor , just 30 over stock cam, bbk 65mm throttle body, power pullys, flowmaster x-pipe with dumps, nothing special. any imput would be nice thanks.

crown vic motors were often equipped with the same crappy e6 heads that 86 mustangs were

'87-93 had E7s... not a huge step up but certianly better than E6s... E6 heads are only good for doorstops....

you could prolly find a set of ported e7s for cheap...

but the best factory head you could get your hands on is the GT40 head off of the 5.0 explorers up to 96.5... all after had Gt40P heads which require different headers for sparkplug clearance... those can be had for a few bennjamins

yup no prob man...

if you find a 5.0 explorer at a JY, grab the Intake off of it too, it flows better than the mustang, and if you still have the factory '86 intake manifold, it will flow even better...

couple that with a good cam and you'll make some good power

I worded it wrong, the 5.0 explorer intake is better than the mustang intake...

as long as the blocks/ motors are sound, it would be better if you yanked the whole motor, swapped out to a nice crane cam, get some 1.7 roller rockers and toss your whole '86 motor, if the money allows...

cuz the '86 5.0 have flat top pistons with no valve reliefs...

just a suggestion... the '86 5.0 was a pig...

yea mine is a major pig, i think im gonna go tomorrow and look and see what my buddy has out at his yard and go from their, is the explorer motor better than what i got or should i just steal the heads and intake off it, he has an 88 5.0 ho continental motor and an 88 or 89 crown vic both of those motors are ho motors
