What charicter tells engine size?

Of all the numbers in the VIN, what one tells you if its a 4 banger, V-6, or V-8? I'm doing some background work on a friends 'stang and need to be sure of the engine.... Thanks

40 - Body code (40 - 2dr LX, 41 - 3dr LX, 42 - 3dr GT, 43 - 3dr GT, 44 - 2dr LX convertible, 45 - 2dr GT convertible)
A - Engine code
6 - Check digit (varies)
K - Year (J - 1989)
F - Plant (F-Dearborn)
000001 - Consecutive unit number
Example: 1FABP40A6KF000001
