Any one here that has ever sent thier blocks out to get, magnafluxed, boiled, honed

and thier crank out to be polish along with the rest of thier pistons and caps for both pistons and crank

roughly how much did it cost?

This is where shops make there money, on individual machine operations. Look to spend every bit of 700 on bore, finish hone, surface, magged, baked and blasted, screw in oil galley plugs, cam bearings, freeze plugs. On the other hand a good machinist is worthy. The machines are not cheap either, I just replaced my crank balancer last year, new Hines balancer, ya 26 thousand dollars. So dont junp out of your shoes when you hear the amount. Now if some place will do the above for 300 dollars, run away.

I had the above done to my 74 302 in my 66 mustang 2 years ago and it was like 680.00....so 700+ is about right....you'll get what your willing to pay for as quality costs money

I have a friend who's willing to do EVERYTHING (bore align, decking, honing, boring, hot tanking and painting, and the list goes on...) to any block of my choice for $400. He's going to rankin right now, and if you know anyone that goes to a school like that, I would do that. I've known this guy for awhile so I know he's legit, but that's what I'd recommend because it doesn't cost them any to use the school's CNC equipment, and it helps them pay for their college expenses while you get an A+ quality job done for pennies, assuming you know the person really well and all that.

Just my suggestion, as this is what I've done as of last week. I actually forgot he was going to Rankin for school, and yeah.. good alternative for sure if you know anyone in this situation.

I think my other friend had his 383 stroker LT1 machinework cost about $650, and they do a fantastic job around here.

Thank you very much! in everyones honest opinion is it worth it to spend that much for a rebuild? or am i worrying to much about having a fresh motor for a amature HCI + small nitrous shot (if i am ever ready for it)
