Default transmission

ok...so its been pulled....

and i was slightly disapointed....kinda of. it grinded second real bad, couldnt really shift 3rd. i was expecting some F'd gears and broken syncros and bent shift fork....prepping for the worst.

so i take off the tail shift...everything looks good. pop off the cover and looked at the shift forks....everything looks fine.....rotate all the gears....everything is perfect. wtf? i was relieved but mad at the same time. lol

so i already ordered the rebuild kit, i figured the syncros are just worn and i cant visually see it. hopefully all be bangin some gears here next week if its dry out.

Just asking because sometimes you forget these things when you're preoccupied, but - did you check the clutch, and is it adjusted correctly? If everything looks okay, that may be your problem. I expect it's probably the syncro's, but take a look at your clutch (I don't know what you have done there) before you put everything back in because that could be half of the reason why you're having difficulties.

i tried readjusting it once before. i have an adjusting cable but non adj, firewall. its the stock quadrant. every gear shifts fine excepts if you try to go into 3rd from N it wont go, wont grind...it just wont go no matter how hard you push...which would be a symptom of a bent shift fork...i think

second grinds if you shift too fast. even if i hold the clutch in all the way to the floor, engine running, put it into first and while still holding in the clutch try to slam second gear, it grinds. but if you shift at normal speed it goes in just fine. i assumed syncro.

those are my only two symptoms, every other gear shifts just fine, fast, slow..whatever. what do you guys think?

btw its CF DF clutch, ford TOB, adj. cable...everything else is stock.

could be the syncros...they wear out over time and abuse!

take a close picture of the teeth on all blocker rings and synchro gear hubs, also I'd focus on the slider, to see that good you really need to disassemble output shaft and all stuff on it and inspect piece by piece, focusing in prob area

i tried to maually slide each gear on my own, i found it pretty tough to do by hand. i remember back when i rebuilt a 3 speed back in highschool it was extremely easy to move each gear by hand. think this is an issue or i wont know till i start taking it apart?
