Default Gear ratio ?

I am new to mustangforums and hoping you can help. I have a 89 gt with fresh 302 .030 over, gt40 upper lower and heads, e cam, crane roller rockers, 75 mm throttle body and spacer, bbk cold intake, and k&n filter. Currently has 3.73 gear with m/t street slicks 15 psi and can not get car to hook up at the track. Before I buy another gear I could use some help. Thanks

Do you have suspention mods? The key to traction in these cars is weight transfer. Whats your 1/4 time and 60ft time? what RPM are you launchuing at? What kinda burn out are doin just rollin them over a few times or frying them?

Make sure the track is preped with some VHT, run through the water box, do a good burnout, avoid a dry hop and chances are it is going to hook and go or break some parts. With great traction comes great parts breakage

...3.73's not the problem...might be the suspension! ....I would drop the pressure lower on the ET Streets, do a good burnout & let it rip...

What RPM's you coming out at & what are your current 60' times??

I run about 12 psi, you'd be amazed at what a few psi drop can do, but it should hook, my 92 suspension is stock and with et streets it hooks

I am coming out at 2500 - 2800 on stock rear suspension getting a 60 ft time around 2.25 - 2.4. What suspension upgrades will get me the most hook. I feel that I am heating the tires until they stick and bog me down.

Since you're NA you have to come out the hole a lot harder then 2500-2800 RPM's...I'd say more like 4000 RPM's with those tires, start around 12-13 psi & test with pressures...you'll start picking up some good 60' & ET's

what i would do is get some lower control arms installed. then go to an empty lot and spend a day practicing your launches. play around with tire pressure and launch rpm to see what works best for you and your car. when you have it dialed in, fine tune your launch at the track. 2.25-2.4 60ft times is just awful!

I know my 60 ft times are awful. I will drop pressure and see what that does for me. I will be heading back to the track friday night to try it again. Hopefully with better results.

invest in some upper lower control arms. you'd be amazed at the difference what some new bushings and proper pinion angle can do and yea id launch a little higher. i launch higher on street tires and i still hook decently.
