Default Fox brakes

Well my 81 fox brakes really suck I would have to struggle to stop. They are manual front disc and rear drum. I dont have the money for a 5 lug conversion, any suggestions? I was thinking that I could pick up a ford racing adjustable proportioning valve and improve it a bit or am i way off?

A adjustable proportioning valve would not do anything for you. A proportioning valve just crontrols the fluid from front to rear. How do the brakes look? Is the master cylinder full of fluid?

Yes upgrade to better front brakes, Pad material makes the biggest upgrade in the brakes, well that and tire condition.
