Easy out?

we did that when we were swapping my intake. if you have the lower off and iron heads, heat the head around the bolt..dont heat the bolt. heating the head expands it enough to crack the rust free sometimes. this is all if the lower is off tho.

Take a very sharp center punch and center it up on the broken bolt and give it a good smack with a small hammer so it will dimple the broken bolt. Then get a small drill bit (1/8) and then drill straight down the center of the bolt. Then keep moving up one size at the time until you start hitting aluminum. The most times you can use a pick to get the rest out or retap the hole. It normally take me about 30 minutes to do an extraction like that.

alright thanks guys i was little frustrated yesterday when it happened, i didnt get the intake off yet so im hoping that it didnt break off in the block and i can get a hold of it with a vise grip, heat up around it and twist it out.....with luck

if you are going to be doing any kind of drilling, mask off the top of your motor with masking tape and newspaper.... and while drilling, have a shop vac going to suck up any little shards of metal that may come flying out..
Its always good to keep random shrapnel out of your crankcase

If you have enough to hold onto with vise grips don't heat up the intake. Go to the parts store and get a can of Freeze Spray. Spray the area really good and wait about thirty seconds and shoot some WD-40 or PB Blaster (I love PB-Blaster) and wait a minute of two and it should spin right out. Never go towards a aluminum intake with a torch. If you do it on the car use some masking tape to tape the intake passages to keep stuff from droping in your engine
