Any of you guys bought the tool that allows you to notch the pistons while the engine is still in your car? I've heard it's relatively simple, but I've never had to buy one until now possibly. Where do you even go for one of these? It sounds pretty useful to have for all applications.

Thanks Joel I really appreciate it. I just need an alternative if I decide to send back my heads and get AFR's with 2.02's in them. I could go with Trickflow, but I haven't made any clearcut decisions yet.

I have a set of valve notching tools I bought from one of the salesman who came to the shop in the early 90's. It has 4 pilot shafts and 9 cutter heads. The heads scew on the shafts and then it installs like a valve. They also have locking collars that tighen up on the shaft so you can measure the depth of the cut and stop. The only thing on the box is "Tantum 981" I paid 1100 dollars for the set. They look a lot like the Isky but all the shanks have 1/4 inch bit shank so an angle grinder or small angle drill can be used with them.

Yeah, but nobody sold an on the car valve notching tool back then. Plus it does valve notches up to 2.35 inches. It's paid for itself more than a few times.lol Must have been pretty well made. the 2.02 cutter has done at least a 1000 pistons and still cuts like day one.

Yeah I have a stock bottom end on the car. Just trying to get the maximum potential for my 302 at the moment until I decide the 357 needs a turn.
