Default Clutch question

I am having a problem with my clutch.
When the car is off and parked, I can shift very easily. When the car is on, I have a bit of trouble putting it in gear. I can pop it in first, but it will turn off.
I do have trouble shifting too.
Do i just need to change out my clutch/flywheel?
When I put it in gear when I am shifting I can feel the wheel spinning but it seems like it is not stopping to let me put in in gear.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Guys....

Does it make any noise when you push the clutch in? Is the fork moving in when you push the clutch in? Does it have a fork, what year is the car?

It is a 93.
I dont think it is going in when I push the clutch in. All I feel is the stick hitting the turning wheel. Then if I slam the clutch in and put it in 1st, it turns off. I think the clutch may need to be replaced because I slam my foot down all the way in, and it doesn't allow it in gear.

Yea, sound like it's time for clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.

sounds like clutch isnt disengaging.

try pulling up on the clutch pedal till you hear it click, that should take any slack out of the line. then try putting it in gear again.

Okay guys, I called around to different shops and I was told (over the phone) that i need a new cable?
Some sort of cable that will help switch gears better. That is the reason I have trouble shifting and it is so tough to change gears and put in 1st.
Does anyone know about this or what cable this is?
I have never heard of it.

I actually did and it did not help. I called around since I don't have all the tools with me to pull everything apart. Someone mentioned the tranny might need rebuilding....?
