Default Anybody built a tremec?

My clutch that was put in last year before I bought the car is starting to slip. Insted of buying a new clutch, I am going to put in my tremec which I already have a clutch for. I am wanting to tear it down to make sure everything is working order before putting it in. The guy that had it before me was getting a grind going into 4th gear when I bought it. Anybody know a good book or dvd that is easy to follow for the build? Thanks.

ive never tore down a tremec but its going to be fairly similar to the t5 and t56's i've rebuilt. as for your grind, more than likely worn blocker rings but hard to say without seeing it or have driven it. tranny rebuilds arent difficult and hard to mess up but there are some things you should know how to do before you go tearing one down. i'd really try to get a tremec manual to refference off of. they should be free online in a PDF format.

EDIT** we are talkin about a TKO right? not just a tremec t5?

it was a tremec that was upgraded with a tko mainshaft. . . The grind, I am hoping had to do with the clutch. A week before the guy sold it to me, I saw the clutch he took out and it was demolished. He wanted to trade for my c-4 about a week after putting in the new clutch so . . . I don't know, it could be a problem with the tranny. The mechanic is a friend of mine that he worked for said it was a good tranny so I traded without driving it. The tranny only had a thoudand miles on it since the last rebuild but alot of those miles were track miles in an 8.20 car in the 1/8 mile.

I changed my mind about the tearing down the transmission. I was all geared up to do it until I took the drain plug off. Good news is there is there no metal that came out of it with the fluid. The bad news is only 2-1/2 ounces came out of it. The guy said it had a leak when he sold it to me and he had been adding fluid every so often. I think I may have got ripped off.

At least open it up and take a look. Takes all of 5 minutes to get it apart. Post some pics

Well, I got it apart. But have no pics. (i didn't get a chance to get one the other night and no store in town even knows what they are)

Good news is, there is no teeth missing on any of the gold syncro rings or the black rings by them. The gears look good from the top. I guess it would have to be took down further to tell if anything is wrong. About 2 years before I got it, the guy told me he bought it used and it would not shift into 3rd. He said something about some teeth were missing on the front of the gear that he could not see. The builder found the problem and he ordered the gear from tremec. Supposedly this is when he ordered the tko upgrade. The thing still has a 10 spline input shaft so it may not be one.

The oil settled in the measuring cup that I drained from it. 1oz of it is grey fluid and the other 1-1/2oz is red fluid.

So what do you think?
