Porting and Polishing Intakes?
#2
done it a few times now. works fine. do some research on DIY porting. doing it with a die grinder in a garage wont be close to as proffessional as a machine shop but for stockish parts it works for what you're trying to do.

Porting helps if done right, but most people don't know what they're doing and these days the costs of having a shop do it isn't worth it with all the heads available on the market for cheap. Polishing is worthless in a street car, it really only helps in something that runs at sustained high rpm.

If you gring too much in the intake exit ports it can hurt you as the air has to climb the ledge going into the head. Port the intake slightly smaller than the heads intake ports to give you a measure of safety for port misalignment. Make sure the header is slightly bigger than the exhaust port. You don't want the air/fuel or exhaust hitting any kind of ledge. As far as polishing goes, it's the shape not the shine that makes power
