Tell him to set initial timing with a vacuum guage. With the Vacuum advance to the distributor plugged. If it knocks after the vac. advance is hooked up, retard the initial timing 1 degree at a time until it no longer does.

Nice try but reply = fail........he has a sn-95 mustang = sefi not carbed...anyway to the op.....pull the spout connector set base to 10 degrees via timing light pointed on the balancer , stock spec = 10 btdc......then advance from there, I run mine at a base of 13...........once set, shut car off and reinstall spout connector and be on your merry way

installing the spout connector while the car is still running can cause a power surge in the electronics and blow out the ECM and or TFI module.

its just good practice to be safe

Pretty much for the same reason that you always unplug the battery terminals before doing any electronics work on your car.

Running off your drivers side fuel harness (plugs that go onto your injectors) you'll notice at the end (closest side to front bumper) that there's a little black square box and inside of that is a little gray "spout" that gets taken out when setting your timing.
