Default Making some progress on 8.8 from hell

ok so i got the pin out, it turned out the 5/16" bolt that holds it in had broken off inside the pin, i checked for this but the bolt broke so clean at first i did not think it was that but it was anyway to the next problem. in my haynes manual it shows that the next step is to take out the c clips but.... unlike the haynes manual on both sides in front of/in the way of the c clips are a piece that looks like an N do you guys know what i am talking about and how to get them out so i can get to the c clips? thanks mike

you need to take that big center pin out of the "N" shaped piece. once all that is out you push the axel in and slip off the C clip. hope this helps

the S spring does not need to come out. the locking bolt must come out, drive out the cross pin, push axels in, remove C clip, remove axel. done...

Step one: remove bolt
Step Two: Remove large pin that runs through the center of defferential Perpendicular to Axles
Step Three: Push Axles in a slight bit
Step Four: Remove C Clips
Step Five: Remove Axles
Step Six: Drink to celebrate

Seeing as you had a broken bolt that pin in step two might be a bitch to get out, I would try to get all reminants of the broken bolt out and it should be a little easier. The big N clip (Referred to on here at the S Spring) comes out only if you are doing a complete tear down to replace clutches and it DOES NOT come out before the differential is removed from the axle housing. That spring is not fun to get in and out either. hope this helps.

sure, or just push it slightly with a screwdriver or soemthing, they just fall off for the most part, then just pick it up out of the bottom of the pumpkin.
