TPS & Code Help!
90 GT 5.0, Check Eng light is on. So check the code....... code 53 TPS volts to high. So i tap into the green wire of the tps with my volt meter. And connect the ground to the body. It was a little high. So i adj it to (.99). turn everything off pull the batt cable reset codes. Start the car and check eng light comes back on. Now the code is 63 tps to low.. So i go back and forth with this for a hour. 1.0, .99, .98,.97,... same thing no matter what code 53 to high or code 63 to low...
Questions: Should i tap into the ground wire of the tps or is the body ok?
Is this a sign of a bad tps?
Am i doing the test right?
The parts house shows 2 or 3 different TPS for my car, how do i even know if the one i have is the right one?
Thanks Brian

Looks like the TPS is kaput or there's a problem with the SIGRTN circuit (you should use the black wire at the TPS as your ground reference point), or there's a problem with the TP wire (signal is intermittent at the ECM)........ BTW, no need to set the TPS at any specific value, as long as the closed throttle voltage is between .6 vdc and 1.1 vdc.... no TPS failure codes should show up. LUK

in the future you can back prob the signal wire and with a dvom as you open the throttle, look for glitches/ opens, voltage should steadily rise and have no open spots
......glad to hear it's fixed
