your wasting your time!!! on my 92 the upper one is stripped and I was to lazy to drill and tap it, so I just used cork valve cover gaskets and bought a can of Permatex's "the right stuff" = silicon sealer or sort off...lol anyway that stuff is like glue, use it and I gaurantee they won't leak, I did just that and no issues

you shouldnt be torquing valve cover bolts anyway... there is no good reason that bolt should have snapped....

+1 might have to pull the head and take it to a shop or something.

i think that bolt snappedbecause it was really old and weak.but idid the sealtoday using the current gasket so ill seewhat happens and if i leakthen ill get the cork gaskets.i would pull the head but they are getting replaced a year from now anyway so im not bothering with it.i got the car running and all.i did my bbk offroad h pipe and damn that was such a pain in the ***.
i guess sometimes i forget this car is twenty years old so when you are trying to remove a pipe that has never been removed it does pose an issue.every bolt had to get soaked in rust penetrant and even the o2sensors were hard to get out.i also noticed that i had to cut the hangers off of the old h pipe to be able to drop it low enough to remove.i work at a shop but they have been having a fit about working on our own cars lately.today was definetely a day i wish i could have brought it to work to work on.ill tell you guys something, with the offroad pipe and stock mufflers it sounds really sick but im getting my flowmasters real soon.
believe it or not this car was practically unmolested.at least till the day i bought it.
