Default 2 questions one thread...

hey guysi have a 90 gt and today i went and set the timing.well i need to ask,i set it to 10btdc with the spout connector disconnected,it is dead on the money,i noticed though with the spout connector reconnected it is higher, like 14-15 ish.is that normal?
my other question, last week i replaced my valve cover gaskets so as you all know, the upper intake has to come off so it got a new gasket as well, this evening i went to double check the torque on my bolts and on the driver side, bottom, middle bolt for the valve cover snapped.what im wondering is this thing going to leak from there now?should i go ahead and pull it all down again and try to extract the bolt and or drill and retap?if so would it hurt to reuse the upper intake gasket since it is a week old?any help guys is appreciated thanks.

It will probably leak after a while. You should be good to reuse the upper gasket they don't really take much abuse like other gaskets.

Also I am pretty sure the timing increase is normal its just the computer doing its thing and the spout being out just allows you to set it at a certain timing without the computer changing it then it just advances off the baseline you set with the spout out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My car did the same thing, so, I cant see it being an issue.

You are right, the computer or something advances the reading when the spout is put back in. Its normal.

Why not advance your timing a bit? Mine is at 17* now.

take it apart, get an easy out and get the bolts out. it will leak eventually....and your timing is fine. if u want you could put 93octane in it and put some more timing on it...usually about 12-14* u can get out of it.

if it leak's fix it. sooner is better then later.

ive run timing from 15-19 and all around, i find my car run's best at 15* base and it doesnt ping with midgrade fuel, but your's might so pay close attention (if it doe's just drop your timing to say 12* untill you can get better fuel in)

i decided to go ahead and get the bolt out im going to do itthis weekend, looking at it better in the daylight and without frustration i might be able to use vice grips to get it out being i may have a little bit sticking up.i will have to pull the valve cover though.as for as advancing the timing i wanted to at least go back to stock to make sure an issue was gone,it was pinging when i got on it while driving and notice a slight hint of smoke with a fuel type smell from the exhaust but i did find the timing was insanely high like 20 plus.so it is set good now and i have mid grade in it now i want to run that out and go premium and then start playing with it more.the engine is totally stock at the moment so i dont want to go too far for now.
