84 Carb problem

I have an 84 GT with a carburator that takes a long time to start. Sometimes I have to prime it. I have to crank it a long time and it won't start but I do smell gas fumes.

You should only have to pump the pedal once and start it right up. Either something isn't set right, or the carb is all dirty.
