Question Another dumb balancer removal question

Please do not beat me up too badly on this one. How do you remove the 15/16" nut on the balancer without spinning the motor. I do not have an impact wrench, so I have to use what little brawn I have. Any help appreciated.

why cant you spin the motor?

as long as your turn it counter clock wise enough times it will eventually undo itself. i've never had it not do it. (tip: keep the spark plugs in, use breaker bar so you have leverage when turning the motor counter clockwise to make it easier on you, the compression made helps act as drag on the crank, giving you a chance to break the bolt free)

Am I doing something wrong? I am using a 1/2" drive breaker bar, turning the 15/16" balancer nut counterclockwise and the damn thing ain't breaking. I am just spinning the motor.

have all your plugs in? compression will help you

when you bring the breaker bar to where you can really put a ton of force into it...do it. try to turn of the motor fast when you get to a good leverage point. it will break free. might have to do it a few times.

i put my car in 5th gear and that kept the crankshaft from rotating to remove the bolt.

FivePointOhh and Camaroeater, thanks so much for your help. The fifth gear trick worked! I'll have to make a mental note of that one.
